The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is located just in front of either ear. The joints work together to open and close the mouth. If you place your finger in front of your ear you can feel it work. The joint moves first by rotating followed by a forward motion to give you full opening. At full opening you should be able to fit three stacked fingers between your upper and lower teeth.
You use your jaw all day long as you speak, eat or chew. If you find that you are having trouble with these activities or experiencing facial pain, we can help.
