Brian Sherk

Brian, a Valleyview native, spent his childhood engrossed in sports and cherishing family time. He graduated from Hillside High School in 2005. During his high school years, Brian excelled in various sports, including X-country running, volleyball, badminton, track and field, and the business club. His most notable accomplishments in sport include six zone silver medals, two zone gold medals, and a provincial gold medal. Additionally, he received grade 9 citizenship, multiple athlete of the year awards, and academic honors.

After graduating, Brian enrolled in the two-year transfer program at the Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) to the University of Alberta. During his time at GPRC, he actively participated in the Badminton and X-country running teams. Brian continued to excel in his pursuits at the college level including the following accomplishments, two team provincial silver medals in X-country running, a spot on the grande prix team in X-country running, and recognition as the ACAC athlete of the month in Badminton.

Brian transferred to the University of Alberta in the fall of 2007. Choosing to focus on his academic pursuits Brian successfully gain admission to the physiotherapy program. Brian continued his studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology 2009 and a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy 2011.

Since completing his formal education, Brian has continued to increase his knowledge by participating in weekend courses, online education, workshops, conferences, and continuous reading of text books and journal articles.

Brian maintains an active lifestyle by engaging in various sports such as badminton, running, outdoor activities, adventure sports, and weightlifting. In 2015, he achieved a remarkable athletic feat by completing the Canadian Death Race as a soloist. Brian holds a deep appreciation for the body’s incredible capabilities and believes in constantly challenging it. He continues to push his physical limits through diverse activities and inspires others to do the same.

Family

Brian is most proud of his family. He’s been married for 15 years and has four children, ranging from 11 to 6 years of age. If Brian ever appears exhausted, he is, and he sincerely apologizes for it.
