Edgar Chivunze
I am a passionate physiotherapist, and my goal is to be part of my patients' journey toward pain-free movement. I graduated from the University of Zimbabwe with an Honors degree in Physiotherapy in 2008. I then worked in hospitals, community physiotherapy clinics, and with professional sports clubs in three Southern African countries. As my desire to serve my community better intensified, I completed a Master of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Physiotherapy in 2020 at Africa's top-ranked University of Cape Town. My research focused on what drives people to keep moving and the health-related behavior changes that result from participating in a weekly running/walking program called Parkrun.
With extensive experience in Africa working with elite soccer players, rugby players, sprinters, cyclists, and Olympic and Paralympic athletes, I love to see people move and participate in sports with ease and without pain. I spent over a decade as a Club Physiotherapist for a team that won four consecutive Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League titles (the highest title in football in the country) and participated in more than four continental editions of the prestigious Confederation of African Football Champions League and Confederation Cups. This experience sparked a special interest in sports injuries and a deep desire for optimal sports performance. As a keen sports clinician, I have basic knowledge and training in cycling coaching, bike fitting, and the training of endurance runners.
I have attended courses in sports rehabilitation, taping, concussion in sports, vestibular rehabilitation, and orthopedic and manipulative therapy. I completed the Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy Parts A and B and enjoy applying this knowledge to clients with low back and neck conditions. During these courses and my education in South Africa, I developed a keen interest in musculoskeletal issues, chronic pain, and return-to-work rehabilitation.
I enjoy running and cycling.
Outside the clinic, I love spending time with my family and exploring the beauty of the Canadian outdoors.
